A science class may take its students to a science exhibit such as the one below*, and an art class may find itself at the LACMA**, but our Hindi-Urdu summer course students took an authentic trip to...Samosa House!
Here, the lovely owner Vibha dressed in traditional clothing for us, and, speaking only in Hindi-Urdu, introduced each of the menu items to the students. Students got to ask (in the "polite register", of course) for each item in their meal, and then spent time together as a class with us, eating the delicious desi food, answering questions about the meal in the language, strolling through the various cultural items for sale, and finally finishing up by completing their fieldtrip guide (in Hindi script), and their latest Urdu script worksheet.
The class is already nearing its end for this summer, but we still have some exciting things to look forward to during our last week, including the debut of the students' video project "Jhoot!" Stay tuned...
