I offer to you today a screenshot of a video I took while bowling with the cousins again in Lahore, on Eid-e-Milad un Nabi (the Prophet Muhammad's birthday). So while we stayed away from busy markets and masjids where the likelihood of a bombing was high, places like suburban bowling alleys and bakeries were open and relatively quiet. So what do some Lahoris do on a holiday like Eid-e-Milad un Nabi? Many of the adults have family gatherings, others go to movies, and some may also go bowling with club-style lighting and gigantic screens with gyrating women and men on them. They even played, quite embarrassingly, Enrique Iglesias' "Tonight" two times (I'd offer you the YouTube link but I'd rather not be responsible for materials NSFW). There I was, with my 12-17 year-old cousins watching Shakira and Enrique and Rihanna and MJ and Kesha, sorry, Ke$ha, and Katrina Kaif in her latest "super hit" song "Sheila ki Jawani," which is very disturbingly on the lips of every child these days in Pakistan.
So, while on American news channels like FOX you will most likely only see images of burka-clad kohl-eyed women and heavily bearded men with guns in hand screaming "Death to America!" in conjunction with the words "Pakistan," "Muslims," and "Islam," this image provides you with a different view of daily life here in Pakistan that you will most likely never see on TV.
